Looking for ways to get students familiar with PARCC-aligned writing formats or the Common Core Standards in a fun, quick way? Try these postcard and letter-writing templates! Simply print them 2-sided, then cut in half. Presto! You've got a quick writing activity for a substitute or a literacy station in the making.
This is a great way to start teaching writing at the beginning of the year. It got even my most reluctant writers excited to write and share their ideas because they got to choose their audience. Would they write it to a parent, a friend, a teacher from a previous year? They loved having a "real" audience for their writing and I loved their enthusiasm!
Best thing about these templates? There is a teacher-sized version with labels (for salutation, greeting, body, closing, signature and date) that you can use to make a co-created anchor chart for your classroom. It's quick, easy and great to post above your writing station.
Use these as anticipatory slips or exit slips as well. I hope you enjoy!
