Poster Project - FAMOUS TRIALS EDITION rubric, student examples, instructions, tips, and more.
In all of my first year undergraduate classes I employ creative assignments as a way to engage my students in the higher levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy. I always find these assignments rewarding for my students - a helpful way to study, a different type of assignment, a way to engage visual learners, and I am always surprised by their work.
An added bonus is these assignments are a great alternative to essays!!
In order for your students to excel in this activity, they need to see examples and understand how they will be graded.
Included in this unit are the following:
✏ Two rubrics that show students what is expected in their finished product. There are two versions - one with philosophy and one without. THE RUBRIC IS INCLUDED IN THE MAIN PDF FILE BUT ALSO IN THE GOOGLE FILE (THIS FILE IS EDITABLE) SO YOU MAY ADAPT IT TO YOUR CLASSES!
✏ Instructions that I give my own students - also in an editable format - this is the template that I use on Google Classroom. There is a link on page 28 - open the link, edit, and download the instructions as a PDF if you are not posting the assignment online.

✏ Student examples - I use student examples from previous semesters to help my class understand my expectations. There are 14 included here from first and second year University students. (There are 11 trial posters, 1 Fiction poster, and two bonus posters that are featured in my library display.)
✏ An example of a citation page. This citation page also includes an explanation of the elements used in the Poster.
✏ There is a photo on page 4 of some of these poster creations. The University where I lecture created a display of my students’ work!! I am in the process of writing several blog posts about this experience and the different assignments that are on display.
✏ Please note that I encourage my students to use images in the public domain, but often they use images that are have copyright attached. This project also goes well with a lesson on copyright - especially digital copyright. The posters I have included may only be shown in your classroom. The poster that I put on the cover, as far as I am able to discover, has only images in the public domain. The images used in the other posters may have copyright attached. Please do not copy any part of this product and place it on the Internet in any form (even a personal/classroom website). These items can be picked up in a Google search and then shared worldwide for free.
