This visual (Boardmaker based) picture board for adapted game participation helps students develop functional communication skills, including basic turn taking, requesting, commenting, and indicating completion. It is designed for use with any “Mr. / Mrs. Potato Head” set.*
This visual support allows both verbal and non-verbal students to participate in a social, early-learning, play based game.
The therapist can provide visual models (pointing to pictures), verbal models, and hand over hand assistance as needed. Peer models may also be incorporated.
Structured 3-4 word phrases are targeted, including:
“I want _____”
“It looks silly”
“Put on potato head”
“I made potato head”
Identification of basic body parts is incorporated.
Turn-taking skills are addressed as students are prompted to indicate “My Turn” or “Your Turn” as appropriate, either verbally or non-verbally (through pointing to pictures).
*”Potato Head” play set NOT INCLUDED.
