This is an engaging unit whereby our students can learn about the themes of power, cooperation, conflict and decision making by examining the relationship between the First Nations Peoples and the European Settlers. The unit is introduced using media to introduce the First Nations & European relationship in context.
I've bundled a number of lesson plans that will guide the students through these important themes and culminating in a Classroom Fur Trade experience. I have included all of the graphic organizers, flags and trade resources.
This unit culminates in a reflection piece based on critical issues from this learning experience that will help the students consolidate big ideas about group and power dynamics between the early settlers in Canada.
My kids love the learning experience and really got into the trade experience as they worked really hard to not only become wealthy, but also just to survive! Enjoy!
