Meet the Greeks is a Power Point that introduces students to the Who’s Who of Mount Olympus by comparing each God or Goddess to famous Hollywood actors and actresses. The comparisons make the ancient relics relevant to today’s audience and engage students. My ninth grade class loves it and quickly catches on to the key characteristics connecting Hollywood to Ancient Greece.
Section 1 includes 14 slides introducing the Pre-Olympic beings of the Greek Creations myth including Gaea, Uranus, and the Titans. Section 2 includes 47 slides introducing the major Gods and Goddesses of Mount Olympus. There are 3 slides for each God/Goddess.
Slide 1 contains photos of famous actors, actresses, and musicians with similarities to the God/Goddess they introduce either by looks, personality, or what they are most famous for. Students activate critical thinking skills and try to figure out what the Hollywood Actors may have in common with the ancient Greek God they are about to meet.
Slide 2 contains classical images in paintings and statuary and some basic facts about the God/Goddesses.
Slide 3 contains a chart with additional information about the God or Goddess. A printable handout of the chart is included in the zip file that students may fill in.
