Power Words 16 is a program which introduces early and limited communicators to 16 powerful core vocabulary words through repetitive, engaging, and scaffolded activities that can be used for frequent and functional communication. Part four introduces students to the Power Words “come”, “make”, “see” and “feel”. This program provides communicative and educational professionals with cohesive units that can be utilized in early-childhood and primary elementary classrooms on a daily basis or weekly in therapy rooms. A no-tech core board of 28 high frequency words is the only “technology” needed for students to communicate, and is provided as a part of this program. As students progress through the program, and become more familiar to the vocabulary, functions and locations of vocabulary; fringe vocabulary is added to the core board. Speech generating devices and dynamic display devices may also be used to carryout the activities within the program. The purpose of this program is to increase student’s communicative competency in utilizing core vocabulary through frequent partner augmented support.This is accomplished through a variety of activities : story, song, signing, oral motor planning, video modeling, targeted play, written expression and through art, as well as a home carryover handouts and incentives. These activities can easily be incorporated into small and large groups, during “circle time” activities and once taught carried out by support staff. Included in this file are 4 Videos, 4 original song Mp4s with symbol song lyrics, an original book, a mini book, a Power Project (art project) and a sign that highlights use of the Power Word in a variety of functional phrases for staff and parents.
