Having a daily schedule with clear expectations and task assignments for each activity throughout the day can be extremely helpful when working with students with special needs. I have found, working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, that making the day predictable and the expectations easily understood can really make all the difference in a student's day (and yours as a teacher too!)
This is the daily schedule template I use with my students. I set it up through PowerPoint & post it on the SmartBoard each day. There are guidelines for setting this up, tips on individualization and a few screenshots of what my actual schedule (with student names removed) looks like.
Note: I have been using this as a text-only document, I believe you can modify it to add in pictures and would be happy to help you with this in any way you need!
