This PowerPoint contains some of the basic expectations for a good expository essay. It includes the words students should look for in the writing prompt, what words not to use in their essay and what each paragraph should contain. It also includes several practice writing prompts for students to choose from and use to begin planning an essay in a graphic organizer. Some of the guidelines I used in the PowerPoint came from my experience both teaching and grading the essays on the Texas STAAR test.
*Note: In the practice area, I wrote in the instructions for students to use a bubble map because my students always seem to do better planning with that graphic organizer. However, this PowerPoint is totally editable, so you can change it.
