This is a PowerPoint that covers why humans want to try to control floods along rivers. It uses the Missouri River as an example. The Missouri River drains 1/6th of the entire United States. What happens when it floods? What happens when there are droughts?
Is it really a good idea to try to control the floods and the migratory pattern of rivers by building levees?
This PowerPoint has great pictures showing the effects of flooding and levee breaks. It also shows the levee that was built in the area where I teach, Santa Maria, California.
Students will enjoy this PowerPoint and it would go great with a conversation and video about the levees breaking from Hurricane Katrina.
Let me know what you think and happy presenting!
