It seems the yearly forest fire season is getting longer with the increase of global warming. Why? This PowerPoint presentation covers the possible reasons as to why there is an increase in forest fires.
This presentation also covers the advantages of forest fires such as stimulating germination for some species with pine cones and allowing vegetation to grow in areas that in turn provide food for deer, moose, elk and quail.
This presentation also hits upon the idea of peat bog fires which are very difficult to put out.
I wrote this PowerPoint with my AP Environmental Science students in mind. There are pictures for students to visualize the concepts presented.
