This is a PowerPoint game; a cross between a bingo and battleships game where students randomly place boats on a grid and if they get a 'hit' they can cross off the boat. First to cross off all their boats is the winner. It’s a fun time-filler I use with upper high-school students to break the monotony and keep them motivated to study.

How it works: Each student makes a six by six grid on a piece of paper and draws 15 sailboats randomly in the squares. Once everyone is ready, the teacher can start clicking the computer mouse in the PowerPoint show. A square from the grid will randomly explode. Teacher calls out the name of the square (e.g. B 6) and if a student has a boat in that location, they put a cross through it. First one to have no ships left is the winner.

There are three versions so, assuming your students like it, you can play it again with new permutations.

Zero educational value, I know, but it’s fun and playing a game with the students can help with motivation. I use this mostly with upper high-school as a 10-minute time filler or reward at the end of a lesson. It must be fun enough as my students wanted to play it again today!
