Start your day (or your classroom period) with your students with a life-affirming quote and a series of 5 pieces of art projected onto your whiteboard or screen. Don’t stop there…inform your students of the day’s expectations or special announcements or project entry work or learning targets on the same slides as the quote and artwork. Buy up to 180 slideshows, designed to get your students’ attention and get them working in the first minute they enter your classroom.
One hundred-eighty slideshows with 5 slides each! I’ve made all 900 slides for my classes and now I want to share all of this with you. My goal has been to expose my students to works of art from around the world and to have them read (and discuss) something positive at the start of our time together. Each morning my students would walk into class and know exactly what to do because they purposefully would look at AND READ (!) what was projected up on the screen. One day they may be presented with math problems. The next day the message may contain important information about events or due dates. Another day the kids may be asked to write out the quote in their very best handwriting and share with tablemates their take on its meaning. YOU decide what your students will see when you write up your messages on the first slide and copy and paste that message to the remaining four slides. Each slideshow will cycle through slideshow, until it’s turned off. One message, five works of art.
This project is so huge it is not possible to post it on teacherspayteachers in its entirety. I have made 4 packets of 45 slideshows each and have posted them separately in order to get all 180 shows in my store.
Copyright and fair use guidelines allowed me to share artwork that is in the public domain and artwork not in the public domain for my personal educator use in my classroom. The same guidelines dictate that I cannot include artwork that in not in the public domain that I wish to sell. Every third slideshow in Packet 2 is a slideshow with all components present, except the protected artwork. A hyperlink (with each slideshow) is included for you (or student) to get to a kid-safe search engine, which will take you to the images/artwork of the featured artist. Click on the hyperlink (when in PowerPoint presentation mode), choose up to five pieces of art you want to share with your students and copy, place, and position the art into the slideshow.
Once you add the artwork, the slideshow is yours to use for the next 5, 10, or 20+ years! The initial investment you make today can be used for the length of your career. Not a bad deal, huh? Packets 1 and 3 also have slides in need of artwork and both have the same kind of links that you will find in Packet 1. Packet 4 has all 45 slideshows needing artwork. Its price is obviously lower, due to the absence of artwork…but what a great project for kids to work on when finishing in-class projects or assignments.
Make valuable teaching time by communicating with your students first thing as you see them, without having to say a word. Expose your students to great works of art and wise words, chosen to foster self-direction, personal responsibility, and a clearer understanding of how to get along in this world.
I wish you and your students a great year!
