This is a PowerPoint presentation on ozone and ozone depletion. This presentation covers what ozone is, where it is located and why it is important to our environment--mainly blocking ultraviolet radiation from our sun. One of the most important phrases for students is:
Ozone--good up high, bad nearby!
This PowerPoint goes through what chemicals are responsible for the breakdown of the ozone and what effect the breakdown have on our environment. This presentation is pretty heavy on the chemistry involved in the breakdown. This presentation also includes an assignment at the end where students will be researching about the Clean Air Act and comparing this to laws and treaties such as the Montreal Protocol and others. Students will also look at how these treaties have had an affect on the amount of CFCs affecting our environment today.
I wrote this presentation with my AP Environmental Science class in mind. I believe it is too advanced for a 9th grade science course although an honors class may be fine with the concepts involved.
Happy presenting! Let me know what you think!
