PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This Powerpoint covers the culture of conformity in the Postwar era. Topics covered include: advertising/consumerism, car culture, franchises/conglomerates, roles of women, expectations of children. Includes hyperlinks to youtube videos that illustrate concepts, including a clip from Father Knows Best which illustrates gender sterotyping, and a 1950's school dress code video. It also includes slides which can be printed to create student fill-in notes. Would also work well as an introduction to the 1950's in preparation for teaching Catcher in the Rye. It includes a summary writing prompt, asking students to connect the song "Little Boxes" to the culture of conformity.
