This sequencing activity will provide your students with an engaging opportunity to recognize negative and positive powers of 10. The exponents used in this activity range from -7 to 7 and negative powers of 10 are written in both fraction and decimal form.
To complete the activity, students will start by simplifying the power of 10 given on their student worksheet. If the evaluation is done correctly, their answer will be at the top of a card on the next page. Students cut the card with the correct answer on it out and paste it into the next available spot on their worksheet (scissors and glue required) before evaluating the function on this new card and continuing on with the activity. Students are finished when they have pasted all cards onto their worksheet in the appropriate order.
There are 3 different card sets included in this activity. In the first, all negative powers of 10 are written in fraction form. In the second, all negative powers of 10 are written in decimal form. In the last version, negative powers of 10 are written in either decimal or fraction form. You can use all three activities on the same day or split them up and use them throughout the unit for review!
This no-prep resource includes directions, a template, 3 sets of cards for students to paste in sequential order, teacher notes, and an answer key. ALL BUT 2 questions in this activity are shown in the preview – check it out to determine if this activity is at the appropriate level of rigor for your students!
