Powers of Ten Discussion and Task Cards! I was introduced to the Fan-and-Pick concept in a workshop some years back and I was thoroughly impressed with this non-threatening, yet team building strategy. This strategy allows each member of the group to have an active role in the participation and explanation of using the Powers of Ten in the group.
How it Works: Student 1 fans the discussion cards and holds the fan of cards so that Student 2 can select a card. Student 2 selects any card from the deck and reads the card to the group while granting the team a brief time to think about the answer to the question. Student 3 is charged with answering the question. Student 4 gives feedback to Student 3’s response and offers praise, and or paraphrases what Student 3 stated to the rest of the group. If no other responses are offered by any of the other group members, students rotate the instructional card and students switch roles.
This is an excellent way for teachers to informally assess student’s understanding of a given skill or concept. The following cards have been created with the specific skill located on the title page of this PDF.
This product includes 20 thought provoking cards that will have your students intrigued with each card.
