This set of two graphic organizers will give your students the opportunity to simplify powers of i and perform operations on complex numbers.
In the first graphic organizer, learners will be simplifying powers of i and then sorting equivalent powers of i so that they are written on the same branch of the graphic organizer. Two versions of this graphic organizer are included. The first is a traditional graphic organizer in which students write in the requested information. The second version is a cut and paste activity.
The second graphic organizer has students practicing adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing complex numbers. Student first list the method they use to perform each operation (e.g. “combine like terms”) and then complete 2 examples per operation. Knowledge of the complex conjugate is needed to complete the division problems.
These graphic organizers were a great review for my Algebra 2 students during their quadratics unit. Check out the preview to see if they are at the right level of rigor for your classroom!
