These ratio and proportion practice problems are used during my math lab. The class provides extra time and support for struggling students. The sheets are cut and glued in composition books (math logs) that are kept in the classroom. Answers keys provided for all mini-lessons.
The set of four mini-lessons includes:
Common Core Standard - 7.RP.1
Students are asked to define unit rates and complex fractions. As a class, we discuss when unit rates would be important in the real-world. We provide examples of unit rates and complex fractions. Students solve four unit rate problems associated with ratios of fractions.
Common Core Standard - 7.RP.2
Students are asked to define a proportion in addition to providing an example. We continue our discussion on unit rate and introduce constant of proportionality. Students explore if two quantities are in a proportional relationship. As a class, we reinforce independent/dependent variables, graphing, and equations.
Common Core Standard - 7.RP.3 (Two Lessons)
Students are asked to warm-up by solving some proportion problems. They also solve percent problems involving sales tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, and percent increase and decrease.
