PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Using Eavan Boland’s poem, "The Pomegranate” and Rita Dove’s “The Bistro Styx”, students will review important poetic devices, close read and annotate poems, view supporting video clips, evaluate the writing prompt, and examine student sample essays. This lesson prepares students for AP Literature exams, Common Core extended response assessments, the SAT essay and critical thinking activities. Both poems have the theme of mother and daughter relationships using the Persephone, Hades, and Demeter myth.

The packet includes three complete lessons, common core standards, essential and key questions, links to video clips and resources, a link to a teacher’s guide for analyzing the poems. Included is a 25 question viewing guide with an answer key for The Clash of the Gods Episode 3: Hades.
