Most know Langston Hughes's poetry but haven't delved into the richness of his short stories. Toni Morrison is a premiere intellect and novelist and one of America's greatest living writers. This lesson pairs Hughes' depression era short story, "On the Road," with an excerpt from Morrison's early novel, Sula. The packet includes a wide range of activities including a listening activity, a Close Reading exercise, a comparison chart, a reading guide, a writing prompt, a creative paired activity, and opportunities to discuss and present findings.
