Using Martín Espada’s poem, “Imagine the Angels of Bread,” students will review important poetic devices, close read and annotate the text, view supporting multimedia, including clips that profile a reading of this poem on justice, immigration, and the Syrian Refugee crisis. Students will also view a TED Talk on the hidden reasons for poverty, and evaluate a writing prompt for the poem with a student sample to read. These lessons prepares students for AP Literature and Language exams, Common Core extended response assessments, American Literature Course exams, the SAT essay and critical thinking activities.
