Nobel Prize winning author, Gabriel Garcia-Marquez, is arguably the greatest Latin American author. His recent death brought to light the impact his work made on modern audiences.

Introduce students to Garcia-Marquez and Magical Realism through the variety of video, audio and art links that are included in this material.

The lesson is comprised of an expanse of multimedia including biographical information, a modern filmed interpretation of Garcia-Marquez’s seminal work “One Years of Solitude,” literary terms, a study of the artwork of Colombian artist, Fernando Botero, an AP literary analysis prompt on characterization, a viewing guide for the ESPN film 30 for 30 on soccer and the drug cartels in contemporary Colombia and an answer key for the viewing guide.
