Description

Have students demonstrate their understanding of classroom procedures in a fun and different way, while integrating ELA and writing practice! Use this as a back to school behavior activity after you have already introduced procedures and expectations to your students. Or, use this as an after break activity (after fall break writing, after winter break writing, after spring break writing, etc.) for procedures practice.

In this no prep resource, students read some short passages where the main character clearly does not follow classroom procedures. After reading the story, students have to rewrite it, having the main character instead follow correct classroom procedures.

The reading passages cover the following classroom procedures:

-asking to use the restroom

-finishing work early/doing your best work

-sharpening pencils

-walking in the hallway

-arrival

-dismissal

Students also will write their own story of a student using incorrect procedures, and then rewrite that story with correct procedures (or have a partner rewrite it).

A grading rubric is provided for easy grading of this back to school procedures activity.

These activities can be used the first week of school after upper elementary students have been introduced to your classroom procedures. Or, you could use these writing activities throughout the school year as a review of classroom procedures or an after winter break classroom expectations activity for 3rd grade, 4th grade, or 5th grade students.
