Fabulous resource focused on physical properties of matter, mixtures and solutions, and classifying substances based on the substances physical properties. There are three different activities included in this resource.
Activity #1 is called Sort it Out. There are thirty different substance cards that the students classify into groups depending on the substances physical properties. The teacher choose to have the students classify the different substances by -
Magnetic or Non Magnetic
Soluble or Insoluble
Insulator or Conductor of Thermal Energy
Insulator or Conductor of Electrical Energy
Sink or Float
This activity is wonderful at allowing the students to practice and discuss different substances and their physical properties.
Activity #2 is called Mix it Up! The student will pull two substance cards from a deck to determine which combination they will need to combine together. A chart has been added to this resource to help the students analyze their thoughts about the two substances that they have combined and come to a conclusion if they have created a mixture or a solution. This activity is great as an extension of what the students have previously learned, as a review or even as an assessment.
Activity #3 is called Describe it - Physical Properties. The students will pull one card from the deck of substance cards to determine which substance they will need to evaluate the physical properties of. A chart has been added to this resource to help the students organize their thoughts. This activity is a great way to review or evaluate what your student know about physical properties of different substances.
