This packet contains two super secret number puzzles.
The first is just basic practice with rewriting large and small numbers in scientific notation.
The second is practice with multiplying and dividing numbers written in scientific notation.
I will give this worksheet as an in-class or homework assignment. As students begin to finish, I tell them the super secret number. If their super secret number is the same as mine, they probably did the problems correctly. If their number is different, they know they need to go back and check their answers.
This assignment is aligned with common core eighth grade standard:
8.EE.3 Use numbers expressed in the form of a single digit times an integer power of 10 to estimate very large or very small quantities
