This resource was designed to help young children prepare for kindergarten in a fun, developmentally appropriate way. It is packed-full of meaningful activities that are centered around PLAY!
There are two different formats of this packet included. There is a “print version” that was designed to be sent home to families (and to conserve paper & ink!). Also included is an “email friendly version”. This version includes a full color pdf (with clickable links) that can be easily emailed to families. (Please be sure to download the preview for a detailed peek inside this packet!)
Here is what’s included:
-Letter to Families- a simple explanation of the packet
-3 Monthly Calendars- Calendars for the months of June, July and August are included. Each calendar includes 25 days (5 weeks, Monday-Friday) of activities. The calendars are not dated. Therefore you can use them year after year!
-Word Games Section- This section includes detailed directions for families so they can play several word games with their children this summer. The games focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, following directions and listening skills. They were designed to help prepare children for kindergarten reading activities. These games do not require any materials or prep!
-Play & Learn Activities for Each Subject- A page of simple, fun activities for each subject is included along with a short explanation of why the activity is important for learning. Play & Learn activities are provided for Math, Science, Reading, Fine Motor/Writing, & Social Skills
-Online Resources-Two pages of online resources are included. These pages include links to online learning games, storytelling sites and videos & songs that reinforce basic skills and learning concepts. The names of the websites and addresses are provided. These resources are also clickable links (that will work if you choose to email this file to families).
-Learning Resources-The final section of this packet includes some “extra” learning tools that families may find useful as they prepare for kindergarten. This section includes: alphabet cards, numeral cards, shape cards & 10 frames. These can be used as posters, coloring sheets, flash cards or game pieces. (For example, two sets could be printed to play a game of “Memory”.)
***Please note: This resource offers the SAME materials in a 42 page “print version” (in all black & white to conserve ink) and a 42 page “digital version”- designed to email directly to families. (The digital version includes color & clickable links.) The only difference between the two packets is the color & clickable links. This is two versions of the same material.****
