In today’s educational climate, it is important for all teachers to keep a keen eye on the literacy levels of their students. Before NAPLAN and Basic Skills Testing was introduced, literacy assessments tended to be Norm Referenced. NAPLAN is a Curriculum Based Assessment, which provides information to parents and teachers about the skills students have mastered, and the key focus areas for improvement. Norm referenced assessments serve the purpose of determining a student’s deficits or extension levels – usually the former – and are used to identify eligibility for services.
I have created a set of 7 curriculum-based assessments from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6, which provides teachers with an easy to administer comprehensive literacy assessment at each stage of learning. The following key areas are assessed in each pack:
Sight word knowledge
Each pack contains a Teacher and a Student copy, with a Results Grid for the teacher to record student achievement in each assessed area of literacy in a quick and efficient manner. At the end of the assessment, which takes about 45 minutes to complete, a very comprehensive overview of skill levels can be determined. More importantly, the results identify any areas of concern.
