Sight words are so critical in learning to read. During literacy, I make sure my students have word work activities that keep them engaged while also working on skills. Often times those activities are based around sight words.
This is a sight word activity I use during daily 5 but it could be used during any part of your literacy block. Using the Pre-Primer Dolch word list, I created vivid hidden word pictures. There are 10 hidden word pictures per season totaling to 40 pictures in all. The seasons correspond to the United States (ex: winter pictures have Christmas and snow).
You can laminate or put the sheets in a dry erase pouch and have student search for the words hidden in the picture. The words are visible to the eye but they are small so you could have students use a magnify glass to up the engagement. (Magnify glasses are not needed if you do not have them in your classroom.)
Along with finding the words , there are also two differentiated recording sheets. On the first sheet, students record the word as they find them. On the second recording sheet, students record the word and then write a sentence using the word.
