This brain-busting pre-reading assignment causes students to consider their point of view on the hottest topics from Antigone, including:
● Do you think people should be obligated to obey laws even if they don't agree
with them? Why or why not?
● Are stubbornness and pride admirable qualities? Explain. Think of a situation in which two equally proud and stubborn people came into conflict. What happened?
After reading Antigone, you can have students revisit their writing and consider whether or not their minds have been changed. My students loved this activity and our classroom discussion over these topics really prompted higher thinking.
