Product Description
This is a 2-page, detailed PDF (printable!) pre-reading / research activity to set the stage for reading Albert Camus's existentialist masterpiece novella The Stranger (L'Etranger). The PDF includes:
a.) cooperative learning tasks within teams
b.) jigsaw topics (5 separate topics for 5 separate teams to research, from French colonization in Algeria, to Camus himself, to the origins and resolution of WWII, to current and historic death penalty laws -- both within and outside of the U.S., to Existentialist philosophy.
c.) graphics
d.) fill-in dates for research/team planning days
e.) fill-in date(s) for presentation day(s)
f.) recommendations for team creation of a Prezi, Google presentation, or MS Powerpoint to present to class
g.) requirement of proper MLA documentation for Works Cited
h.) suggestions for speaking/listening Common Core anchor standards (eg. establishing team norms, team name, etc.)

My students have been quite successful in the past with this pre-reading jigsaw research activity, and the presentations have historically been great opportunities for developing a.) formal presentation and b.) listening /note-taking skills. These research topics will certainly help address much of the conflict(s) within Camus' novel, and eradicate the need for constant explanation throughout so that you can focus instead on the philosophy(ies) and literary elements of this novella, one of the "100 Must Read Novels" of our time.

This would be a terrific lead-in to my The Stranger Novel Study Activities/Assessments Pack -- available at a reasonable cost in my store. You may also wish to pair this with my PPT Introduction to Existentialist Philosophy, which ends with a call to read Camus's short story "The Guest," as a tie-in to The Stranger, or any of my literary elements PPT notes/activities (including Imagery, Theme, Characterization, Figurative Language, etc.).

Thank you for looking, and for your feedback, should you choose to purchase. I appreciate your business: enjoy!
