Picture puzzles are also an excellent way to introduce the part – part – whole aspect of Singapore Maths, missing digits e.e. 145 + __ = 193, can be used to develop logical thinking and bring enjoyment to halving and subtraction.
I've chosen the numbers to use in K3 i.e. halving 3 digit numbers (e.g. 176) and borrowing when subtracting 3 digit – 2 digit (e.g. 263 – 87). The code breaker work sheet practices 3 digit + 3 digit.
I recommend using the halving diamond as the start of each task and the column method to subtract and borrow.
There are three pages of picture puzzles 2 x 2. I have also included blanks so that you can use your own numbers.
