This is a one day lesson to teach the Preamble of the Constitution. It is fun, makes connections between the past and present, and gets students writing and drawing.
I used it successfully for 5th and 8th graders for 7 years, but it would be appropriate for 4th graders too.
Students will learn:
-What a preamble is
-The 6 reasons for government explained in the Preamble of the Constitution
Students will show this by:
-Using their graphic organizer quote and paraphrase the 6 reasons of preamble, and drawing an example of how each of the 6 reasons of government are happening today.
-A PowerPoint with introductory set, vocabulary, a breakdown of the Preamble and thorough instructions for the lesson.
-A graphic organizer that doubles as an assignment.
