The subject of polynomial functions includes function composition, the graphing of the function composition results on a prepared graph form, the location of the upper bound and lower bound of a polynomial, the location of the zeros of the function (between two consecutive integers), and the location of the roots, accurate to the tenths. The graph and the answers to the problems are to be presented on a poster suitable for display in the classroom.
The composition of the two given functions assigned in the project yield a rational function with two vertical asymptotes (3 graphs), a slant asymptote (one graph), and one graph with a hole.
There are five versions of this chapter project available for distribution to your class(es). The version number is not included with the title of each problem set. This is intentional so that the students will not easily discern the project each has compared to the version of his/her neighbors. Clearly, they could tell the difference by comparing the directions. But it stops casual comparison.
The problems assigned for this project are typical of the more difficult problems found in the polynomial function chapter.
