Predict-o-grams can be super helpful for previewing new books (read alouds, guided readings, and content specific books) using new vocabulary. Using the template, the teacher would pick a book, and pick specific vocabulary which pertains to the characters, setting, problem, events, and solution in the text. After reviewing the words with students, students would sort these new vocabulary words into categories (characters, setting, etc...) Using this sort, students make a better informed guess about what the book may be about. This prediction strategy helps build vocabulary, and has student guesses based upon textual evidence, rather than a simple picture walk. Enjoy!
