Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of Dementia. Dementia is increasing rapidly across global populations, and is now the second leading cause of death in Australia. In this learning activity, students will be required to analyse some hypothetical patient data and make subsequent recommendations about what the data means. This engaging activity enables students to calculate changes in population percentages in an authentic context, as well as engage in consideration and/or debate around ethical issues. In addition to population percentages, the activity also includes other Maths tasks relating to conversions and indices, as well as other curricular areas such as Health and Science. In order to cater for different learning needs, the activity is presented in two versions - standard and elementary. In addition, students will also have the opportunity to engage in learning about an increasingly problematic public health issue.
