Description

Making predictions while reading is an essential skill for comprehending text. Students do not intuitively know how to make effective predictions based on clues from the passage and their own experiences. That’s where this mini-unit comes in. Filled with predicting passages, worksheets, and graphic organizers, this unit is the perfect way to teach students how to make predictions while reading.

This mini-unit provides numerous opportunities to develop the skill of making predictions. Through creative activities like Going to the Movies, Predicting the Future, a Top Secret Tips Puzzle and Prediction Flaps, students become actively involved in their learning. Direct instruction on how to make predictions and prediction question stems, further develop students’ reading comprehension skills. Five original prediction passages also help students make accurate predictions as they practice supporting their predictions with evidence.

Great News! The student packet is also available as a Google Slides resource for students. In addition to the PDF version, students can complete the packet pages via a file sharing service such as Google Drive, Google Classroom, or in the internet “cloud.” The digital version of the packet is accessible from any computer and allows students to complete their work online.

* FYI: The anticipatory set activities that accompany each lesson are NOT in a digital format. They will still need to be printed for students due to the hands-on and interactive nature of the activities.
