As a math teacher, I try to take any and every opportunity to incorporate real-world applications and events into my teaching - but same days it's harder than others.
With the election rapidly approaching, I figured it would be the perfect time for a data and statistics lesson in my PAP Algebra 1 class. This lesson also meets 6th, 7th, and 8th grade standards, so don't shy away if you're not an Algebra 1 teacher. It is definitely adaptable.
Collecting data in a table format, creating scatter plots, sketching and analyzing lines of best fit, calculating slope, using point-slope form to find the equation of a line in slope-intercept form, calculating a correlation coefficient, calculating linear regression, and making predictions based on a trend line are all concepts that are embedded in this collaborative project. I hope you like it! If you purchase, please leave feedback on how it goes in your classroom. This will be my first time trying out a project like this, so I love to get feedback from other teachers.
