Predicting Lesson for Fifth Grade
Standards Met and Summary of This Lesson
This is a 21 page common core-aligned unit that focuses on the critical thinking skill, predicting. There is a focus on finding the information that supports the prediction.
Common Core Standard: English Language Arts Standards: Reading: Informational Text : Grade 5 Explain how an author uses reasons and evidence to support particular points in a text, identifying which reasons and evidence support which point(s).
Readers make and modify predictions before, during and after reading based on prior knowledge and the text.
This lesson can be used in many ways. I use the first 5 cards as guided-mini lessons during shared reading. Then, I use the literacy center during the rest of reading. It keeps the kids busy while I meet with reading groups- and it's not just busy work, it is directly linked to standards and your mini-lesson! This makes the learning meaningful and purposeful!
There is an answer key for the mini-lessons and the literacy center.
There are two different choices for answer sheets.
There is also a rubric.
