This set of 11 posters introduces and defines 10 different prefixes commonly used in the English language. Each poster is a simple design with a prefix and two or three example words that use that prefix. The 11th poster summarizes a number of prefixes which add the meaning "not" to words.
Included are the following prefixes:
im- or in-
ir- or il-
Determine the meaning of the new word formed when a known affix is added to a known word (e.g., agreeable/disagreeable, comfortable/uncomfortable, care/careless, heat/preheat).
Use common, grade-appropriate Greek and Latin affixes and roots as clues to the meaning of a word (e.g., telegraph, photograph, autograph).
