This is a yearlong program. I created this packet because I wanted to combine my spelling, vocabulary, & roots into one list. This packet is a combination of prefixes, suffixes, and Greek & Latin roots from “WORDS THEIR WAY- Derivational Words” combined with the Fountas & Pinnell “Continuum of Literacy Learning”.
There are 5 pages for each week. Monday- Introduce the vocabulary. Tuesday through Thursday, do an activity like matching definitions, fill in the blank, illustrating the words, word search... Finally, students take the written test (spelling and vocabulary) at the end of the week.
Each week focuses on 4 different prefixes, suffixes, Greek or Latin roots, consisting of 20 words total. The words lists start off easier with suffixes -s, -es, -ed & -ing and quickly moved through prefixes (uni, bi, tri... un, dis, il,...) to roots like ped, graph, tele,...)
It is so fun to see the students start to recognize these words in their daily reading, understand the relationships of the roots/prefixes/suffixes, and transfer it to their comprehension!
