To practice standard RF2.3, learning about prefixes and suffixes, I created a differentiated puzzle activity. I have students PRE-cut puzzle cards, printed on different colored paper. They then read the sentences and created the unknown word by matching a prefix with a suffix. Next, they draw a picture to match the sentence.
- Group 1 has words from 1st grade that were taught
- Group 2 has on grade level words
- Group 3 has a bit more challenging words
You could even though this group work and partner students heterogeneously.
My students had a lot of fun doing this activity!
