This printable unit works on prefixes and suffixes. Decide on whether the student is working on prefix or suffix. Cards are colored coded to go with either green or red apples; red is for prefix and green is for suffix. Pick a card and lay in at the bottom of the tree. This is the root or base word. Then pick apples that can be put either in the front (prefix) or back (suffix) of the root word to make a new word. HINT: there can be more than one affix to each root word. For more of a challenge, mix up cards and apples. Posters are provided to help with explanation of each word; root, prefix and suffix. Lists are also provided to help with the meaning of each affix. Recording sheets and worksheets with answers are also provided for extra support and to assess understanding.
