I created this game to help my students practice decoding words where the base word has a blend. The squares are color coded: prefixes are pink, suffixes are green, and blends are orange.
Prefixes included: re-, pro-, im-, pre-, con-, de-, com-, ex-, in-, di-, in-
Suffixes included: -ed, -y, -al, -er, -ing, -able, -ic, -ence, -tion, -ly, -age, -ous
HOW TO PLAY:
Laminate the word list sheets at the end of this resource and the game board. Cut the words into strips and place them in an envelope. Have your student pick a word, read it, and put a game piece on any square on the board that matches the word parts they have in their word. For example, a student who picks the word “pesky” can put a game piece on the “sk” blend square and the suffix -y square. Then it’s your turn. Follow the same procedures to model correct decoding to your student. The object of the game can be to get 4 in a row, to get 5 in a row, to get 2 of each word part type, etc... whatever you choose!
