Description

Prefixes PowerPoint: Are you looking for an introduction PowerPoint for prefixes? Or perhaps a Power Point to begin your prefix unit with upper elementary students? If so, this highly interactive PowerPoint may be exactly what you are looking for! It is fully animated as well. Answers do not appear on the screen until the teacher clicks the mouse. It even includes a PowerPoint companion handout so that students can write on the handout, recording their answers, as you progress through the PowerPoint! The companion handout is available in a printable format and a digital format. The digital handout is compatible with Google Slides.

I choose to begin with these five prefixes because they account for 53% of all English prefixed words, according to Word Frequency Book (Carroll, Davies, Richman, 1971).

The PowerPoint contains the following format:

Slides 1-8: Introduction

-- introduce the terms "affix", "prefix", and "suffix"

-- includes an explanation of why the root word is "fix and how it's related to the meaning of the words!!

-- includes a mnemonic device for remembering that a prefix comes at the beginning and the suffix comes at the end!!

Slides 9-16: The meanings of un-

Slides 17-19: The meanings of dis-

Slides 20-22: The meaning of re-

Slides 23-25: The meaning of pre-

Slides 26-28: The meaning of mis-

Slides 29-46: Practice Slides

-A sentence is provided

-Students write the word with a prefix from the sentence and the meaning of the prefix on the PowerPoint companion handout.

Also, you DO have my permission to convert this PowerPoint to a Google Slides format to share with your students.

This PowerPoint cannot be edited due to the copyright requirements made by the contributing artists (clip art, font, background).
