ANSWER KEY- This packet is a combination of prefixes, suffixes, and Greek & Latin roots from “WORDS THEIR WAY- Derivational Words” combined with the Fountas & Pinnell “Continuum of Literacy Learning”.
I give the students the word list (20 words + definitions) at the beginning of the week. Then, I like to put the words into www.spellingcity.com and have the students practice throughout the week. Finally, they take the written test at the end of the week.
Each week focuses on 4 different prefixes, suffixes, Greek or Latin roots, consisting of 20 words total. The words lists start off easier with suffixes -s, -es, -ed & -ing and quickly moved through prefixes (uni, bi, tri... un, dis, il,...) to roots like ped, graph, tele,...)
It is so fun to see the students start to recognize these words in their daily reading, understand the relationships of the roots/prefixes/suffixes, and transfer it to their comprehension.
