Learning prefixes, suffixes, and roots is a skill that students practice every year. It helps build word recognition, vocabulary, and comprehension. This short activity is one that can be done after the basic definitions of selected roots, prefixes, and suffixes are taught. Students sort affixes to create words. They then write affix-specific and user-friendly definitions. Finally, they write a sentence for each word they create. The list of possible words is editable to allow for differentiation. There are 77 affixes included in this packet. This Common Core aligned activity is great for Stations, Intervention, or Tier 2 instruction.
Included in the zip file:
1. Student-friendly affix worksheet
2. List of starter affixes for middle and high school students to be used in the sort (77 included). This may be edited to suit your needs.
