The Common Core Standards tells us that we need to teach affixes and roots to our students, but it does not specify which need to be taught each year. How do we prevent teachers from teaching the same prefixes, suffixes, and roots each year? I have created this document for my district to help prevent teachers from overlapping teaching.
The most common prefixes, suffixes, and roots are broken down and divided between grades K-5 starting with the most basic. At the end of the document, I have added strategies that can be used to to teach these affixes and roots throughout your day.
Each grade level includes the stardards that are addressed and the roots that should be taught. It also includes the definition, examples, origin, and additional information for each root or affix to be taught.
This document would be great for entire disticts or for teachers who need more information on the most common affixes and roots as well as strategies to teach them.
