This game takes the hard work out of remembering all those prepositions! Students can play as a group or in pairs.
Prepositional Phrase Race Game!!
You have a shuffled deck of 30 Phrase cards. How quickly can you stack them into piles according to the information they add to sentences? To help you...the phrases are underlined! You should have 3 piles. E.g. Prepositional Phrases of:
1. Time –the phrase answers the question “when?”
2. Location-the phrase answers the question “where?”
3. Logical Connections =phrases that add Info & Description.
Some cards are LUCKY... with more than one kind of phrase! So, they would fit in more than one pile! Race to see who can finish categorizing their prepositional phrases first!
This game leads nicely into forming questions with phrases of time, location and detail. e.g. When is the dragon parade held in Shanghai? It would be an excellent addition to any language arts activity centre or for an L2 Conversation class.
