Preposition Book – In and Out
As we all know, some of our little ones have trouble transferring positional concepts from manipulatives to visual representations. There are six pages to this book, each with a person, animal or thing “in” and another “out”. This simple picture book helps them with this skill by providing clear depictions of things that are “in” and “out”. You can cut it out and assemble with your client and let them keep it to practice with parents, or laminate it for use with multiple clients.

Receptive Language:
Use this resource to target receptive language by having the child point or circle “the one that is in the basket” “out of the box”, etc. If you have laminated the book, the child can even use dry-erase markers to identify.
Expressive Language:
There are a few different ways you can elicit some labels with this book. You can point to one of the objects and ask “where is it/he/she?” And to step it up and get a higher MLU, you can give them the book and say “can you read this to me?” I am always amazed at how excited my little clients get when they get to “read” a story to me. They don’t even realize they are working!! If you are working on question formulation, you can even take turns asking “where is the _____?” The simplicity of the book really allows you to target multiple goals at a time.
To Assemble:
1. Print
2. Cut out the top rectangle (cover) and set aside.
3. Cut out the rectangles below, being sure to leave the two pages connected, you should have a total of 3 rectangles, not including the cover.
4. Fold along the middle solid line.
5. Fold the cover in half.
6. Gather the three rectangles you folded and insert the ends with the dotted lines into the cover. The folded edges should be outward, towards the cover opening. I have designed it this way so that you have a front and back to each “page” with no blank pages and no dealing with double-sided printing.
7. Staple at the spine, and there you go!
