A pair of creative writing activities that go beyond the text. The prequel writing activity works create with stories that hint of past events. A sequel writing project is great for stories that leave readers wondering “what happens next” either with an ambiguous ending or hints of something more to come (either good or bad.) Rubrics included, plus options for narrative writing or graphic novel version. Bonus dialogue writing hand out included.
These activities can work with other topics in your class, such as point of view writing, characterization, descriptive writing, and more.
Teacher notes on the topics of prequels and sequels are included, but optional. These can further the discussion about prequels or sequels, and how they come about. Movies are a great example of prequels and sequels, so the conversation may stray to include movies (especially if your students are more movie viewers than book readers.)
